BEFORE AND AFTER {UTAH SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHER}

Every once in a while I like to post a before and after photo. This image really stood out to me as a good example. I like to keep things simple, yet add a little “pop” to my photos.
If you have never done photo editing before, you may be surprised that there are many layers of steps to this process. I NEVER just click an action in photoshop and leave it as is. It’s all about opacity and layers (and which order you place them). In a nutshell, it’s a love story with each photo and creating a balance that is pleasing to the eye.
One could edit the same photo a thousand different ways. This is my version… simple, clean and non-distracting… allowing you to focus on the subject, not the editing!!!
The before image has a distracting background with the edge of the building on the left-hand side. It’s just enough of a distraction that I quickly “cloned” it away. Next, I ran an action to brighten and soften her skin, I added a “smidge” of pop/contrast with my secret weapon actions:) I burned the left side of her head back in a little so that it wasn’t so light and faded (this image calls for strong and bold lines). I also smoothed her hair on the top just a little. I always check my levels and adjust as needed and change the color balance since Nikon shoots too “cool-toned” for me:)
As you can see, all my work is very subtle, yet makes a huge difference in the overall appearance of the photo (especially in print!).
Action sets I like: Kubota, TRA, and Florabella… and some of my own!
Side note: I will be announcing Mini Senior Sessions (Class of 2012 that’s you!). I will be holding 1 or 2 days in August of back to back sessions. Hurry and get your senior portraits done before your tan fades!!! It’s the perfect time to do them. If you are interested, shoot me an email. I’m still deciding on a location, and if you give me your feedback on this, I may just pick YOUR location of choice! Think urban, country, vintage, rustic…. whatever you want. I need your input seniors! Prices and details will be announced in just a bit, so hang tight.
